Former cabinet minister Ali Chirau Mwakwere has hit the road with early minute campaigns in attempts to recapture his Matuga parliamentary seat.

Mwakwere has been transversing the constituency for days now trying to woe the locals to accord him another chance when the anticipated by-elections will be announced.

He lost his Cabinet and Parliamentary seat after a Mombasa court nullified his election when petition was filed by voter Ayub Juma Mwakesi. Mr Mwakesi wanted the election declared null and void, alleging that the entire exercise was marred by irregularities.

Speaker Kenneth Marende declared the Matuga seat vacant, three weeks after the courts ruling over the nullification in December 27, 2007

However, Mwakwere is optimistic that he will recapture the seat, sighting his previous record as a good leader.

Others in the race are Hassan Mwanyoha of ODM and ODM-Kenya's Kassim Sawa Tadaza.
