Kakuma refugee camp, one the largest refugee camps in North Eastern Kenya located in Turkana District was established in 1992 to serve refugees from Somalia, Ethiopia among other countries.
According to UNHCR, the camp population stands at 61,285 refugees.
UNHCR in collaboration with the international organisation for migration started relocating refugees from the Dadaab camps to kakuma. This was part of a plan to alleviate overcrowding in dadaab camp.
Maka Hassan, a mother of three, fled from somalia one year ago.
"I cannot remember the exact date I arrived from Dadaab but I have been in Kakuma for five months. Dadaab may be overcrowded, But I prefer it to Kakuma," Hassan said.
Fatma Ali Mohammed ran away from Somalia because of Al-Shabaab attacks. One of her daughters was killed during the raid another was injured.
"Together with my five children, I left somalia through Yemen and settled in Dadaab for three months before relocating to kakuma," she remembers.
