Floods continue to cause havoc in Samburu north sweeping away everything in its way causing massive destruction.
A total of ten tourists were evacuated from both Serena and Samburu game lodges using helicopters as River Ewaso Nyiro broke its banks.
The floods that struck in the wee hours caught everyone by suprise and nothing was spared, communication was cut off.
When the floods struck at around 3:00 a.m., John Karanja the manager at Samburu Lodge together with members of staff and three groups of foreign tourists were about to begin their day when disaster came calling.
Although there are fears that flash floods might strike once again with clouds gathering and heavy rains at the water catchment areas, the rebuilding exercise is well underway.
The catastrophe is the worst to hit the area in decades. In-fact, no generation living in the area has witnessed such floods in the area better known for poverty and hunger. Fortunately no life was lost as no one lives close to the path taken by the floods. Comments (0) |
