Laikipia East Technical and Vocational College (TVC) is located in Laikipia County, specifically at Marina trading center in Ngobi ward. It was established by the Kenyan government and opened its doors to its first batch of students in September 2018. 
The college was built at an approximate cost of Shs. 50 million and is expected to eventually accommodate up to 2000 students. It specializes in electrical engineering and computers and offers both Diploma and Certificate courses. It is one of three technical training institutes initiated by the Laikipia County government

Applications and placement to the TVC are done through the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) Portal. To apply for placement through KUCCPS, you need to access the student’s portal on the KUCCPS website and log in using your KCSE index number, year of examination, and password. Once logged in, you can explore available programs and institutions, and then submit your preferred choices. TECHNICAL AND VOCATIONAL COLLEGE FEES STRUCTURE

The annual tuition fee for TVET courses at many Kenyan Technical and Vocational Colleges (TVCs) is Ksh 67,189. This includes a government capitation of Ksh 30,000 per trainee, leaving a balance of Ksh 26,420 to be paid by the student, which can be paid in installments. Additionally, students may be eligible for a HELB loan of Ksh 40,000. Other potential costs include KUCCPS registration fees, industrial attachment fees, and examination fees.

GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIP AND LOAN FOR TVC STUDENTS.

Following your placement, you are eligible for a Government scholarship, Loan and Bursary to assist with your educational expenses. If you need Government financial support, you MUST make an application for consideration through the official website www.hef.co.ke. In the case Government scholarship, Loan and bursary do not cover the entire cost of your program, the deficit will be met by your parent/guardian.

To select Grade 10 schools and subjects under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) in Kenya, Grade 9 learners should first choose a career pathway (STEM, Social Sciences, or Arts & Sports Science). Then, they’ll select three subject combinations within that pathway and finally, choose four schools for each combination, totaling 12 schools. To select preferred Grade 10 Schools and Subject Combinations, use the Ministry of Education portal selection.education.go.ke.

    • Identify your interests and potential career aspirations.
    • Select one of the three pathways: STEM, Social Sciences, or Arts & Sports Science.
    • Confirm your choice to proceed with the pathway.

    • The portal will provide you with a list of subject combinations available within your chosen pathway.
    • Choose three subject combinations that align with your interests and strengths.

Participants at a public participation forum in Kisumu, convened to discuss a proposed policy aimed at formally recognizing village elders and providing them with financial compensation, have advocated for the elimination of educational prerequisites for eligibility.

James Onyonka, a resident of Nyamira County, underscored the importance of prioritizing elders who have rendered their services to the community on a voluntary basis.

“These elders have made significant contributions over the years, and it is only appropriate for the government to acknowledge their efforts,” stated Onyonka. “It would be unjust to displace those who have long served their communities. They deserve to be given precedence.”

The forum, held at Mama Grace Onyango Hall in Kisumu, gathered stakeholders from the six counties of Siaya, Homa Bay, Nyamira, Migori, Kisumu, and Kisii.

Onyonka further asserted that educational attainment should not serve as a barrier to serving as a village elder, highlighting that many elders possess invaluable wisdom irrespective of their formal education.

“Some elders are educated, while others are not; however, all should be considered for the role. What is most important is age and the approval of the community,” he remarked.

The Draft National Government Village Administration Policy aims to formalize the role of village elders within the national administrative framework.

If enacted, the policy would confer legal recognition upon elders, delineate their responsibilities, and provide financial remuneration.

Kisumu County Commissioner Benson Leparmorijo expressed support for the proposal, noting that the stipend would serve as an incentive for village elders, who are pivotal in resolving community disputes.

“Village elders are essential to our society. They reside among the people and assist in addressing familial and community issues, often averting the need for legal proceedings,” Leparmorijo stated.

“I am gratified that local residents have embraced the government’s initiative to provide compensation.”

The County Commissioner also expressed gratitude to the residents of Nyanza for their active participation in the forum and encouraged those who were unable to attend to share their perspectives through digital channels.

KAKAMEGA SCHOOL’S FULL HISTORY 

Kakamega School, formerly known as Government African School Kakamega and Kakamega High School, is a prominent Boys’ high school in Kakamega, Western Kenya, founded in 1932.

Mr. Harold Arthur Waterloo Chapman, a graduate of University of Oxford, was made the school principal in August 1931 before its completion and commissioning. He served as the school principal until 1955 when he retired. He later died on the 25 January 1988.

Chapman left a permanent mark in Kakamega school where his name was synonymous with the school. A hostel on the SOWETO side of the boarding section was named after him, and is one of the most popular hostels housing both junior and senior students. To this date, the school is referred to as Chapman’s land as mentioned in the school anthem.

Kakamega school is currently categorized by the Ministry of Education as a national school and admits students from across Kenya. However, even before its elevation to a national school, the school would enrol students from every part of the country based on its popularity.

How to Select Grade 10 Subjects and schools

To select Grade 10 schools and subjects under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) in Kenya, Grade 9 learners should first choose a career pathway (STEM, Social Sciences, or Arts & Sports Science). Then, they’ll select three subject combinations within that pathway and finally, choose four schools for each combination, totaling 12 schools. To select preferred Grade 10 Schools and Subject Combinations, use the Ministry of Education portal selection.education.go.ke.

1. How you can Choose a Career Pathway:

  • Identify your interests and potential career aspirations.
  • Select one of the three pathways: STEM, Social Sciences, or Arts & Sports Science.
  • Confirm your choice to proceed with the pathway.

2. Select Subject Combinations:

  • The portal will provide you with a list of subject combinations available within your chosen pathway.
  • Choose three subject combinations that align with your interests and strengths.

3. Select Preferred Senior Schools:

  • For each subject combination, select four schools from the available clusters.
  • This ensures a diverse range of options and equal representation from different categories of schools.
  • A total of 12 schools will be selected: 4 for the first subject combination, 4 for the second, and 4 for the third.

The Grade 10 School and Career Pathway Selection System is a national digital platform developed to assist Grade 9 learners in making informed decisions as they transition to Senior School. SELECTION OF PATHWAYS AND SENIOR SCHOOLS

• Determination of pathways per senior school
• Determination of vacancies for boarding and day schooling in senior schools
• Selection of pathways, subjects’ combination and schools by grade 9 learners Selection based on pathway

The learner will select 12 schools for their chosen pathway as follows.
– Four 4 schools in first choice track and subject combination
– Four (4) schools in second choice subject combination
– Four (4) schools in third choice subject combination (Total 12 schools) Selection based on accommodation

Out of the 12 schools selected based on pathway;

  • 9 will be boarding schools; 3 from the learners’ home county, 6 from outside their home county/county of residence.
  • Three (3) day schools in their home sub county/sub county of residence. (Total 12 schools)
    Pre selection – A school that does not allow open placement can apply to be pre-select if it meets the criteria defined by the Ministry of Education.

How Placement of learners to Senior Schools (SS) at Grade 10 will be done

It will be based on:

  • Top 6 learners per gender in each STEM track per sub-county will be placed for Boarding in  schools of choice
  • Top 3 learners per gender in each Social Science track per sub-county will be placed for Boarding in schools of choice
  • Top 2 learners per gender in each Arts and Sports Science track per sub-county be placed to Boarding schools of their choice
  • Placement of Candidates with Achievement Level of averaging 7 and 8 per track to boarding schools of their choice

Admission and replacement process

  • Placement results will show where learners have been placed
  • Admission letters/joining instructions shall be accessed online using the learner’s assessment Number.
  • All schools, both public and private shall admit Grade 10 through KEMIS
  • Leaners will be entered to the KEMIS System only after reporting physically to the school.
  •  Daily online reporting shall be monitored through KEMIS

Replacements at Senior Schools

  •  Schools with vacancies will declare through their respective county directors of education
  •  Learners who wish to change schools will make requests through the heads of junior schools at least 2 weeks before the official grade 10 reporting date
  • Priority shall be given to those who had earlier selected the schools they are requesting for  Approvals by MoE shall be based on senior schools’ documented capacity
  • Upon a request’s approval, the joining instructions shall be accessed online; at no time shall a school issue printed letters for replacement cases
  • Replacement will be done once and shall be irreversible

How to Select Grade 10 Subjects and schools

To select Grade 10 schools and subjects under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) in Kenya, Grade 9 learners should first choose a career pathway (STEM, Social Sciences, or Arts & Sports Science). Then, they’ll select three subject combinations within that pathway and finally, choose four schools for each combination, totaling 12 schools. To select preferred Grade 10 Schools and Subject Combinations, use the Ministry of Education portal selection.education.go.ke.

1. How you can Choose a Career Pathway:

  • Identify your interests and potential career aspirations.
  • Select one of the three pathways: STEM, Social Sciences, or Arts & Sports Science.
  • Confirm your choice to proceed with the pathway.

2. Select Subject Combinations:

  • The portal will provide you with a list of subject combinations available within your chosen pathway.
  • Choose three subject combinations that align with your interests and strengths.

3. Select Preferred Senior Schools:

  • For each subject combination, select four schools from the available clusters.
  • This ensures a diverse range of options and equal representation from different categories of schools.
  • A total of 12 schools will be selected: 4 for the first subject combination, 4 for the second, and 4 for the third.

SELECTION OF PATHWAYS AND SENIOR SCHOOLS

• Determination of pathways per senior school
• Determination of vacancies for boarding and day schooling in senior schools
• Selection of pathways, subjects’ combination and schools by grade 9 learners Selection based on pathway

The learner will select 12 schools for their chosen pathway as follows.
– Four 4 schools in first choice track and subject combination
– Four (4) schools in second choice subject combination
– Four (4) schools in third choice subject combination (Total 12 schools) Selection based on accommodation

Out of the 12 schools selected based on pathway;

  • 9 will be boarding schools; 3 from the learners’ home county, 6 from outside their home county/county of residence.
  • Three (3) day schools in their home sub county/sub county of residence. (Total 12 schools)
    Pre selection – A school that does not allow open placement can apply to be pre-select if it meets the criteria defined by the Ministry of Education.

How Placement of learners to Senior Schools (SS) at Grade 10 will be done

It will be based on:

  • Top 6 learners per gender in each STEM track per sub-county will be placed for Boarding in  schools of choice
  • Top 3 learners per gender in each Social Science track per sub-county will be placed for Boarding in schools of choice
  • Top 2 learners per gender in each Arts and Sports Science track per sub-county be placed to Boarding schools of their choice
  • Placement of Candidates with Achievement Level of averaging 7 and 8 per track to boarding schools of their choice

Admission and replacement process

  • Placement results will show where learners have been placed
  • Admission letters/joining instructions shall be accessed online using the learner’s assessment Number.
  • All schools, both public and private shall admit Grade 10 through KEMIS
  • Leaners will be entered to the KEMIS System only after reporting physically to the school.
  •  Daily online reporting shall be monitored through KEMIS

Replacements

  •  Schools with vacancies will declare through their respective county directors of education
  •  Learners who wish to change schools will make requests through the heads of junior schools at least 2 weeks before the official grade 10 reporting date
  • Priority shall be given to those who had earlier selected the schools they are requesting for  Approvals by MoE shall be based on senior schools’ documented capacity
  • Upon a request’s approval, the joining instructions shall be accessed online; at no time shall a school issue printed letters for replacement cases
  • Replacement will be done once and shall be irreversible

How to Select Grade 10 Subjects and schools

To select Grade 10 schools and subjects under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) in Kenya, Grade 9 learners should first choose a career pathway (STEM, Social Sciences, or Arts & Sports Science). Then, they’ll select three subject combinations within that pathway and finally, choose four schools for each combination, totaling 12 schools. To select preferred Grade 10 Schools and Subject Combinations, use the Ministry of Education portal selection.education.go.ke.

1. How you can Choose a Career Pathway:

  • Identify your interests and potential career aspirations.
  • Select one of the three pathways: STEM, Social Sciences, or Arts & Sports Science.
  • Confirm your choice to proceed with the pathway.

2. Select Subject Combinations:

  • The portal will provide you with a list of subject combinations available within your chosen pathway.
  • Choose three subject combinations that align with your interests and strengths.

3. Select Preferred Senior Schools:

  • For each subject combination, select four schools from the available clusters.
  • This ensures a diverse range of options and equal representation from different categories of schools.

SELECTION OF PATHWAYS AND SENIOR SCHOOLS

• Determination of pathways per senior school
• Determination of vacancies for boarding and day schooling in senior schools
• Selection of pathways, subjects’ combination and schools by grade 9 learners Selection based on pathway

The learner will select 12 schools for their chosen pathway as follows.
– Four 4 schools in first choice track and subject combination
– Four (4) schools in second choice subject combination
– Four (4) schools in third choice subject combination (Total 12 schools) Selection based on accommodation

Out of the 12 schools selected based on pathway;

  • 9 will be boarding schools; 3 from the learners’ home county, 6 from outside their home county/county of residence.
  • Three (3) day schools in their home sub county/sub county of residence. (Total 12 schools)
    Pre selection – A school that does not allow open placement can apply to be pre-select if it meets the criteria defined by the Ministry of Education.

How Placement of learners to Senior Schools (SS) at Grade 10 will be done

It will be based on:

  • Top 6 learners per gender in each STEM track per sub-county will be placed for Boarding in  schools of choice
  • Top 3 learners per gender in each Social Science track per sub-county will be placed for Boarding in schools of choice
  • Top 2 learners per gender in each Arts and Sports Science track per sub-county be placed to Boarding schools of their choice
  • Placement of Candidates with Achievement Level of averaging 7 and 8 per track to boarding schools of their choice

Admission and replacement process

  • Placement results will show where learners have been placed
  • Admission letters/joining instructions shall be accessed online using the learner’s assessment Number.
  • All schools, both public and private shall admit Grade 10 through KEMIS
  • Leaners will be entered to the KEMIS System only after reporting physically to the school.
  •  Daily online reporting shall be monitored through KEMIS

Replacements

  •  Schools with vacancies will declare through their respective county directors of education
  •  Learners who wish to change schools will make requests through the heads of junior schools at least 2 weeks before the official grade 10 reporting date
  • Priority shall be given to those who had earlier selected the schools they are requesting for  Approvals by MoE shall be based on senior schools’ documented capacity
  • Upon a request’s approval, the joining instructions shall be accessed online; at no time shall a school issue printed letters for replacement cases
  • Replacement will be done once and shall be irreversible

TEACHERS SERVICE COMMISSION

PRESS STATEMENT ON THE COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AGREEMENT (2025-2029) WITH  TEACHER UNIONS 

On 2nd July 2025, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) invited officials of the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT), The Kenya Union of Special Needs Education Teachers (KUSNET) and the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) for consultative talks over the 2025-2029 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). The talks were a continuation of the CBA negotiation process, which started a year ago.

Today, we assembled here, at the Kenya Institute of Special Education, Nairobi, to finalise the CBA negotiations with the respective teacher unions in the public sector, in conformity with the Government’s commitment to institutionalise collective bargaining in the public service.

After the long journey of detailed and thorough negotiations, we are delighted to inform our more than 400,000 teachers that we have a CBA deal for the period 2025-2029, which we have signed with the elected representatives of KNUT, KUSNET, and KUPPET today.

As a Commission, our first commitment is to safeguard the welfare of our teachers, improve their terms and conditions of service, and ensure industrial peace and harmony in the public teaching service.

It is only through this commitment that collectively, as a teaching service, we can achieve the aspirations of our Constitution that guarantees compulsory quality basic education to all learners.

At the outset, we want to thank the President of the Republic of Kenya, His Excellency Dr. William Samoei Ruto, for the overwhelming support he continues to accord the teaching service in particular, and the education sector at large.

Owing to the Government’s enormous support for the teaching service, the TSC will, in the 2025/2026 Financial Year:

a) Recruit additional teachers at a cost of Sh2.4 Billion. Already, the Kenya Kwanza Government has recruited a total of 76,000 teachers in a span of just two and half years;

b) Promote teachers across all cadres at a cost of Sh1 Billion, and;

c) Re-tool Senior School teachers at a cost of Sh950 Million.

Further, as a result of the Government’s investment in the teaching service, we have today signed a CBA with all teacher unions whose total cost is Sh33,753,372,108 net for a period of four years.

The first phase of the new CBA will be effective from 1st July, 2025 at a cost of 8.4 Billion in salaries and allowances, with more than Sh1.2 Billion being employer’s contribution to the teacher’s Pension Scheme and other statutory deductions.

In order to address the concerns raised by teachers through their unions, and after elaborate negotiations, the Commission has awarded a salary increment of up to 29.5% for our various cadres of staff.

This award is geared towards bridging the wage gap between the highest and lowest paid teacher in the public service. The details of the salary award are provided in Appendix 1:

In terms of Allowances, the Commission has increased the rates for payment of Baggage Allowance as provided in Appendix 2.

All other allowances for teachers remain unchanged as contained in the CBA that we have signed with the unions today.

Further, in the interest of the welfare of our teachers, we have agreed on the following:

a) Teachers who exit service through dismissal shall be entitled to pension benefits.

b) The Commission in consultation with other relevant Government agencies and the unions will conduct a Job Evaluation exercise for the teaching service within the financial year 2025/2026;

c) Upon conclusion of the Job Evaluation exercise, the Commission will review the Career Progression Guidelines in consultation with the unions.

d) The Commission shall grant female lactating teachers two (2) hours’ time -off per day for two (2) months to breast feed.

It is our firm belief that through such progressive awards, the majority of the key concerns raised by the teachers have been fully addressed, and the Commission will be able to have a motivated, ethical and globally competitive teacher in its service.

PRESS STATEMENT ON THE COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AGREEMENT (2025-2029) WITH  TEACHER UNIONS 

On 2nd July 2025, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) invited officials of the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT), The Kenya Union of Special Needs Education Teachers (KUSNET) and the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) for consultative talks over the 2025-2029 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). The talks were a continuation of the CBA negotiation process, which started a year ago.

Today, we assembled here, at the Kenya Institute of Special Education, Nairobi, to finalise the CBA negotiations with the respective teacher unions in the public sector, in conformity with the Government’s commitment to institutionalise collective bargaining in the public service.

After the long journey of detailed and thorough negotiations, we are delighted to inform our more than 400,000 teachers that we have a CBA deal for the period 2025-2029, which we have signed with the elected representatives of KNUT, KUSNET, and KUPPET today.

As a Commission, our first commitment is to safeguard the welfare of our teachers, improve their terms and conditions of service, and ensure industrial peace and harmony in the public teaching service.

It is only through this commitment that collectively, as a teaching service, we can achieve the aspirations of our Constitution that guarantees compulsory quality basic education to all learners.

At the outset, we want to thank the President of the Republic of Kenya, His Excellency Dr. William Samoei Ruto, for the overwhelming support he continues to accord the teaching service in particular, and the education sector at large.

Owing to the Government’s enormous support for the teaching service, the TSC will, in the 2025/2026 Financial Year:

a) Recruit additional teachers at a cost of Sh2.4 Billion. Already, the Kenya Kwanza Government has recruited a total of 76,000 teachers in a span of just two and half years;

b) Promote teachers across all cadres at a cost of Sh1 Billion, and;

c) Re-tool Senior School teachers at a cost of Sh950 Million.

Further, as a result of the Government’s investment in the teaching service, we have today signed a CBA with all teacher unions whose total cost is Sh33,753,372,108 net for a period of four years.

The first phase of the new CBA will be effective from 1st July, 2025 at a cost of 8.4 Billion in salaries and allowances, with more than Sh1.2 Billion being employer’s contribution to the teacher’s Pension Scheme and other statutory deductions.

In order to address the concerns raised by teachers through their unions, and after elaborate negotiations, the Commission has awarded a salary increment of up to 29.5% for our various cadres of staff.

This award is geared towards bridging the wage gap between the highest and lowest paid teacher in the public service. The details of the salary award are provided in Appendix 1:

In terms of Allowances, the Commission has increased the rates for payment of Baggage Allowance as provided in Appendix 2.

All other allowances for teachers remain unchanged as contained in the CBA that we have signed with the unions today.

Further, in the interest of the welfare of our teachers, we have agreed on the following:

a) Teachers who exit service through dismissal shall be entitled to pension benefits.

b) The Commission in consultation with other relevant Government agencies and the unions will conduct a Job Evaluation exercise for the teaching service within the financial year 2025/2026;

c) Upon conclusion of the Job Evaluation exercise, the Commission will review the Career Progression Guidelines in consultation with the unions.

d) The Commission shall grant female lactating teachers two (2) hours’ time -off per day for two (2) months to breast feed.

It is our firm belief that through such progressive awards, the majority of the key concerns raised by the teachers have been fully addressed, and the Commission will be able to have a motivated, ethical and globally competitive teacher in its service.

The TTI Diploma, Certificate and Artisan Courses have different durations, But generally as shown below:

  • Diploma Programs:

    The duration for diploma programs can vary. Some may be completed in two to three years, while others may take longer depending on the specific course and institution. 

  • Certificate Programs:

    Unlike Diploma Courses, Certificate programs typically have a shorter duration, often ranging from one to two years. 

  • Artisan Programs:
    Artisan programs also have varying durations, but are generally shorter than certificate programs, with some being completed in less than a year.

Applications and placement to the TVC are done through the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) Portal. To apply for placement through KUCCPS, you need to access the student’s portal on the KUCCPS website and log in using your KCSE index number, year of examination, and password. Once logged in, you can explore available programs and institutions, and then submit your preferred choices. THURSDAY 31ST JULY 2025: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SCHOLARSHIPS AND LOANS FUNDING UPDATE FOR THE 2025/2026 ACADEMIC YEAR

The Ministry of Education wishes to reassure all Kenyans, especially students, parents, guardians, and our learning institutions, of the Government’s strong and ongoing commitment to supporting access to higher education for all deserving learners.

We are pleased to confirm that both HELB and Universities Fund have been facilitated by the Government to disburse funds to Universities and Students. Indeed the disbursement of HELB loans for first-year university students will begin on 15th August 2025, in line with the reopening of universities. These funds will be released in phases to ensure a smooth transition into University/TVET College and to help students settle into their academic journey without interruption. In addition, the Universities Fund has begun disbursing first quarter scholarship funds for this FY 2025/2026 to all Public Universities.

Applications for loans and scholarships for 2024 KCSE cohort placed by KUCCPS is ongoing. As of today, 129,403 university students and 60,976 TVET trainees have successfully submitted their Scholarships and loan applications under the Student-Centred Funding Model [SCFM]. The application portal remains open until 31st August 2025, and we encourage all eligible students who have not yet applied to do so before the deadline date.

This academic year under the SCFM HELB and the Universities Fund expects to support 201,695 first-year university students and over 237,000 TVET trainees in addition to 257,523 ongoing students. So far, the submitted applications represent 64% of university applicants and 51% of those expected for the September TVET intake, reflecting good progress. Processing of the already received applications are ongoing to ensure timely funds disbursement to students and Institutions of Higher Learning.

To ensure No Student is left behind, the Government has increased HELB’s annual funding from KSh.36 billion to KSh.41 billion, a significant boost of KSh.5 billion. Of this, KSh.13 billion has already been released to support tuition, and upkeep for students while KShs. 16.9 billion has been allocated to the Universities Fund for Scholarships.

The Ministry remains committed to ensuring that no eligible student is left behind due to financial constraints.

The Grade 10 School and Career Pathway Selection System is a national digital platform developed to assist Grade 9 learners in making informed decisions as they transition to Senior School. The platform enables students to select their preferred Pathways, Subject Combinations & Senior Schools in line with Kenya’s Competency-Based Education (CBE) framework.
The goal is to empower learners to take control of their educational journey by aligning their selections with their individual talents, interests, and aspirations.

How to Select Grade 10 Subjects and schools

To select Grade 10 schools and subjects under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) in Kenya, Grade 9 learners should first choose a career pathway (STEM, Social Sciences, or Arts & Sports Science). Then, they’ll select three subject combinations within that pathway and finally, choose four schools for each combination, totaling 12 schools. To select preferred Grade 10 Schools and Subject Combinations, use the Ministry of Education portal selection.education.go.ke.

1. How you can Choose a Career Pathway:

  • Identify your interests and potential career aspirations.
  • Select one of the three pathways: STEM, Social Sciences, or Arts & Sports Science.
  • Confirm your choice to proceed with the pathway.

2. Select Subject Combinations:

  • The portal will provide you with a list of subject combinations available within your chosen pathway.
  • Choose three subject combinations that align with your interests and strengths.

3. Select Preferred Senior Schools:

  • For each subject combination, select four schools from the available clusters.
  • This ensures a diverse range of options and equal representation from different categories of schools.

SELECTION OF PATHWAYS AND SENIOR SCHOOLS

• Determination of pathways per senior school
• Determination of vacancies for boarding and day schooling in senior schools
• Selection of pathways, subjects’ combination and schools by grade 9 learners Selection based on pathway

The learner will select 12 schools for their chosen pathway as follows.
– Four 4 schools in first choice track and subject combination
– Four (4) schools in second choice subject combination
– Four (4) schools in third choice subject combination (Total 12 schools) Selection based on accommodation

Out of the 12 schools selected based on pathway;

  • 9 will be boarding schools; 3 from the learners’ home county, 6 from outside their home county/county of residence.
  • Three (3) day schools in their home sub county/sub county of residence. (Total 12 schools)
    Pre selection – A school that does not allow open placement can apply to be pre-select if it meets the criteria defined by the Ministry of Education.

How Placement of learners to Senior Schools (SS) at Grade 10 will be done

It will be based on:

  • Top 6 learners per gender in each STEM track per sub-county will be placed for Boarding in  schools of choice
  • Top 3 learners per gender in each Social Science track per sub-county will be placed for Boarding in schools of choice
  • Top 2 learners per gender in each Arts and Sports Science track per sub-county be placed to Boarding schools of their choice
  • Placement of Candidates with Achievement Level of averaging 7 and 8 per track to boarding schools of their choice

Admission and replacement process

  • Placement results will show where learners have been placed
  • Admission letters/joining instructions shall be accessed online using the learner’s assessment Number.
  • All schools, both public and private shall admit Grade 10 through KEMIS
  • Leaners will be entered to the KEMIS System only after reporting physically to the school.
  •  Daily online reporting shall be monitored through KEMIS

Replacements

  •  Schools with vacancies will declare through their respective county directors of education
  •  Learners who wish to change schools will make requests through the heads of junior schools at least 2 weeks before the official grade 10 reporting date
  • Priority shall be given to those who had earlier selected the schools they are requesting for  Approvals by MoE shall be based on senior schools’ documented capacity
  • Upon a request’s approval, the joining instructions shall be accessed online; at no time shall a school issue printed letters for replacement cases
  • Replacement will be done once and shall be irreversible

To select Grade 10 schools and subjects under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) in Kenya, Grade 9 learners should first choose a career pathway (STEM, Social Sciences, or Arts & Sports Science). Then, they’ll select three subject combinations within that pathway and finally, choose four schools for each combination, totaling 12 schools. • Determination of pathways per senior school

The learner will select 12 schools for their chosen pathway as follows.
– Four 4 schools in first choice track and subject combination
– Four (4) schools in second choice subject combination
– Four (4) schools in third choice subject combination (Total 12 schools) Selection based on accommodation

Out of the 12 schools selected based on pathway;

  • 9 will be boarding schools; 3 from the learners’ home county, 6 from outside their home county/county of residence.
  • Three (3) day schools in their home sub county/sub county of residence. (Total 12 schools)
    Pre selection – A school that does not allow open placement can apply to be pre-select if it meets the criteria defined by the Ministry of Education.

It will be based on:

  • Top 6 learners per gender in each STEM track per sub-county will be placed for Boarding in  schools of choice
  • Top 3 learners per gender in each Social Science track per sub-county will be placed for Boarding in schools of choice
  • Top 2 learners per gender in each Arts and Sports Science track per sub-county be placed to Boarding schools of their choice
  • Placement of Candidates with Achievement Level of averaging 7 and 8 per track to boarding schools of their choice

Admission and replacement process

  • Placement results will show where learners have been placed
  • Admission letters/joining instructions shall be accessed online using the learner’s assessment Number.
  • All schools, both public and private shall admit Grade 10 through KEMIS
  • Leaners will be entered to the KEMIS System only after reporting physically to the school.
  •  Daily online reporting shall be monitored through KEMIS

Replacements at Senior Schools

  •  Schools with vacancies will declare through their respective county directors of education
  •  Learners who wish to change schools will make requests through the heads of junior schools at least 2 weeks before the official grade 10 reporting date
  • Priority shall be given to those who had earlier selected the schools they are requesting for  Approvals by MoE shall be based on senior schools’ documented capacity
  • Upon a request’s approval, the joining instructions shall be accessed online; at no time shall a school issue printed letters for replacement cases
  • Replacement will be done once and shall be irreversible
