Over 25,000 Teachers Elevated in 2024/25 Nationwide Initiative; Overview Per County

Over 25,000 Teachers Elevated in 2024/25 Nationwide Initiative; Here is the Overview Per County

In the fiscal year 2024–2025, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) elevated 25,252 teachers across the nation, indicating a notable progression in school leadership, teacher retention, and motivation.

Teachers in primary and secondary schools profited from this initiative, which included job groups C2 through D5.

Promotions in Grades C4 (8,508) and C3 (4,971) were the most frequent, followed by D1 (5,425). Since D5 only reported 47 teachers, promotions to upper administrative levels were more limited, reflecting the competitive nature and scarcity of such elevated positions.

With 527 teachers promoted, Bomet County notably emerged among the counties with the highest number of promotions. The distribution was as follows:

C2 – 31
C3 – 108
C4 – 162
C5 – 120
D1 – 38
D2 – 20
D3 – 44
D4 – 3
D5 – 1

The TSC’s primary mission to ensure career progression, enhance teacher morale, and ultimately elevate the standards for teaching and learning across Kenya incorporates these promotions. They also aim to improve school management systems and address existing administrative gaps.

Because of smaller staffing levels, Wajir, Lamu, and Tana River experienced relatively fewer promotions compared to counties like Machakos (679), Meru (678), and Makueni (668).

The TSC has assured that the promotion process followed strict merit-based criteria, which include performance, leadership potential, years of service, and qualifications.

In the upcoming weeks, notifications regarding deployment are expected to be sent to promoted teachers.

The education community widely commends this initiative as a gesture of appreciation for the dedication and commitment of educators.

The Commission directed that all venues must be accessible to candidates with disabilities and all officers involved must exercise the highest degree of confidentiality, integrity and professionalism throughout the process.

Scoring Guidelines for TSC Promotions

The promotion exercise will be guided by the Commission’s scoring framework, age, years of service in the current grade and administrative experience. According to the scoresheet:

  • Teachers aged 52–56 years will get 25 marks, those aged 47–51 years will get 20 marks, those below 41 years will get 10 marks.
  • Service in the current grade will be up to 30 marks, seven years or more will get full marks, three years will get 10 marks.
  • Acting or previously held administrative roles will be recognized and awarded marks.

Number of Promotion Vacancies

The October 2025 exercise will fill 21,313 promotional vacancies in primary and post primary institutions and Curriculum Support Officer positions.

TSC noted that more vacancies will be created in 2026 following President William Ruto’s pledge to increase teacher promotion opportunities from 25,000 to 50,000 annually. During a meeting at State House, the President announced that the government will increase the budgetary allocation for teacher promotions from KSh 1 billion to KSh 2 billion annually.

Since President Ruto took office, the Commission has promoted 97,255 teachers, broken down as follows:

  • 14,034 in December 2022,

  • 25,633 in 2024,

Chogoria Girls High Senior Secondary  || SCHOOL’S HISTORY

Chogoria Girls High school was started in 1922 by a missionary from the Presbyterian Church of Scotland, Dr. Clive Irvine, who also founded the church and the hospital

It began as a preparatory grade mixed school. In 1952, it achieved the title of Primary School and Junior School.

In 1953, the Junior School was terminated, and the Intermediate School was introduced.

The school continued with its co-education system, with classrooms at Chogoria Boys Secondary and dormitories at Chogoria Girls Secondary School.

During this time, its catchment area covered the whole of the former Meru and Embu districts.

In 1965, the idea of a secondary school arose among the local people, and the intermediate section was slowly phased out. In the same year, the girls joined the boys to continue with co-education.

The school headmaster in 1968 decided to separate the boys from the girls, which gave birth to Chogoria Girls Secondary School, with its first head teacher, Mrs. Charity Mugo.

In 1969, the girls moved to the present 20-acre site. The physical facilities were quite inadequate, but through the efforts of the local community, the P.C.E.A. church, and assistance from the government and parents, the school grew.

It continued as a single stream up to 1979 when the second stream was introduced. In 1980, the Advanced Level (‘A’ level) Arts stream was started.

From 1980, the school continued with two streams in Ordinary Level (‘O’ level) and one stream in ‘A’ level Arts

The ‘A’ level stream was phased out in 1989 when Kenya’s education system changed to the 8-4-4 system. The third stream in ‘O’ level was then started in 1990.

In 1996, the fourth stream was started, and soon after (in 2001), the fifth stream was introduced.

The school has, over the years, consistently upheld a strong academic record in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations.

Each year, over 300 students are admitted to the institution based on academic merit and individual choice, in line with Kenya’s education policy.

FEES PAID AT THE SCHOOL.

The Ministry of Education in Kenya has introduced new, standardized fee guidelines for public senior secondary schools, effective from January 2026, which marks the transition of the first cohort of Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) learners (Grade 9) to Senior School (Grade 10).

Here are the key details of the approved annual fees and the structure:

1. Standardized Annual School Fees (Public Senior Schools)

The new guidelines scrap the previous classification of schools (National, Extra-County, County, Sub-County) and introduce a uniform fee structure.

School Type Annual Fee Payable by Parent Government Capitation (Subsidy) Total Annual Cost
Public Boarding School Ksh 53,554 Ksh 12,870 Ksh 66,424
Public Day School Ksh 9,374 Ksh 12,870 Ksh 22,244
Special Needs Boarding School Ksh 37,210 Ksh 57,974 Ksh 95,184

Note: The annual fee of Ksh 53,554 for boarding schools is based on the rates established in a 2015 Gazette Notice and is meant to cover boarding equipment, stores, and other administrative costs. The Government Capitation is the subsidy provided by the government to support the Free Day Secondary Education (FDSE) programme.

2. Key Changes and Clarifications

  • Uniform School Fees: All public boarding schools are now expected to charge the same annual fee, standardizing costs across the country.

  • Capitation: The government will continue to provide capitation (subsidy) for all learners in senior schools. The new capitation amount for regular schools is to be Ksh 12,870 per learner per year.

  • No Additional Levies: Schools are required to adhere strictly to the approved annual fee guidelines. Any request for additional levies must receive written approval from the Cabinet Secretary for Education through the County Education Board (CEB).

  • School Fees Payment: Fee structures must be provided to parents at the start of the academic year, specifying vote heads (tuition, boarding, meals, activity fees), and payment should be done through designated official channels.

Pro Tip: The final fee structures for individual public schools are expected to be strictly controlled by these Ministry of Education guidelines to ensure affordability and equity in access to Senior School education under the CBC system. It is important to note that schools may charge other levies after agreeing with parents and getting consent from the Ministry of Education.

💰 Fees

While the official website has a dedicated “Fee Structure” page, the current search results do not provide the detailed fee structure for Moi Kapsowar Girls High School itself. Fee structures can change yearly and are best obtained directly from the school’s admissions office or website.

  • The school’s website indicates they have a Fee Structure page which you can visit for a detailed breakdown of tuition, boarding, and development levies, including payment options.9

Primum in nostrane potestate est, quid meminerimus

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Si longus, levis dictata sunt. Istic sum, inquit. Quorum altera prosunt, nocent altera. Duo Reges: constructio interrete. Quis contra in illa aetate pudorem, constantiam, etiamsi sua nihil intersit, non tamen diligat?

Quid me istud rogas?

probabitur.
  1. Et nunc quidem quod eam tuetur, ut de vite potissimum loquar, est id extrinsecus;
  2. Quid enim ab antiquis ex eo genere, quod ad disserendum valet, praetermissum est?
  3. Quod equidem non reprehendo;
  4. Iam id ipsum absurdum, maximum malum neglegi.

Aliter enim explicari, quod quaeritur, non potest. Putabam equidem satis, inquit, me dixisse. Deprehensus omnem poenam contemnet.

Bonum integritas corporis: misera debilitas.

Loreto Girls High School Kiambu || SCHOOL’S HISTORY

The School’s History is characterized by several years of success in moulding young learners into successful professionals.

The school was founded in 1936 by the Loreto sisters who had travelled from Ireland.

Sisters Teresa Joseph O’Sullivan, Dolores Stafford and Veronica Bradley were the pioneers.

They arrived in Kenya in 1921 as Catholic missionaries to improve educational opportunities for girls in the area.

The original vision of the school’s founders was to educate African girls who, at that time, were denied the right to an academic education.

On 4 December 1936, Loreto Limuru High School opened its doors to its first students. The school founders were the Sisters of Loreto, who came from Ireland to Kenya in 1921 as Catholic missionaries to improve educational opportunity for girls. The vision of the school’s founders was to educate African girls who were denied an academic education. The founders were sisters S.M. Dolores Stafford, S.M. Theresa Joseph O’Sullivan and S.M. Veronica Bradley. The Loreto Sisters believe that with education “Women in time to come would do much”.

They began with seven girls but they left because of the cold and mist. The girls returned and in 1938 four girls took the Primary Examination and began their Teacher Training course.

The first secondary class began in 1947. The first two students, Mary Sekunda Wanjiru and Merioth Wairimu, passed the Senior Cambridge Certificate Examination.

In 1956, a double stream was admitted. There were between 20 and 26 girls per class. In 1958, Loreto was categorized as a National School. In 1970, Loreto began an “A level” art class, and in 1981 the school had an “A level” science stream, with a science laboratory.

In 1986, Kenya introduced the 8-4-4 Curriculum in Kenya. Loreto begant a third stream, bringing the number of students to over 500.

In 1996, the school celebrated its 60th anniversary where the fourth President of Kenya attended the occasion as the chief guest.

In 2011, the school introduced a fifth stream. In 2002 the school hed 800 students, over 45 teaching staff, and over 50 support staff.

How to Select Grade 10 Subjects and schools

To select Grade 10 schools and subjects under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) in Kenya, Grade 9 learners should first choose a career pathway (STEM, Social Sciences, or Arts & Sports Science). Then, they’ll select three subject combinations within that pathway and finally, choose four schools for each combination, totaling 12 schools. To select preferred Grade 10 Schools and Subject Combinations, use the Ministry of Education portal selection.education.go.ke.

1. How you can Choose a Career Pathway:

  • Identify your interests and potential career aspirations.
  • Select one of the three pathways: STEM, Social Sciences, or Arts & Sports Science.
  • Confirm your choice to proceed with the pathway.

2. Select Subject Combinations:

  • The portal will provide you with a list of subject combinations available within your chosen pathway.
  • Choose three subject combinations that align with your interests and strengths.

3. Select Preferred Senior Schools:

  • For each subject combination, select four schools from the available clusters.
  • This ensures a diverse range of options and equal representation from different categories of schools.
  • A total of 12 schools will be selected: 4 for the first subject combination, 4 for the second, and 4 for the third.
