How to Select Grade 10 Subjects and schools

To select Grade 10 schools and subjects under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) in Kenya, Grade 9 learners should first choose a career pathway (STEM, Social Sciences, or Arts & Sports Science). Then, they’ll select three subject combinations within that pathway and finally, choose four schools for each combination, totaling 12 schools. To select preferred Grade 10 Schools and Subject Combinations, use the Ministry of Education portal selection.education.go.ke.

1. How you can Choose a Career Pathway:

  • Identify your interests and potential career aspirations.
  • Select one of the three pathways: STEM, Social Sciences, or Arts & Sports Science.
  • Confirm your choice to proceed with the pathway.

2. Select Subject Combinations:

  • The portal will provide you with a list of subject combinations available within your chosen pathway.
  • Choose three subject combinations that align with your interests and strengths.

3. Select Preferred Senior Schools:

  • For each subject combination, select four schools from the available clusters.
  • This ensures a diverse range of options and equal representation from different categories of schools.
  • A total of 12 schools will be selected: 4 for the first subject combination, 4 for the second, and 4 for the third.

Answer: No. Securing a course depends on the competitiveness of an applicant (compared to other applicants for the same programme) and the number of available vacancies (programme capacity).

Question: When will KUCCPS announce the placement outcome/results?

Answer: The release of the placement process outcome will happen after the completion of application processing. The exact date will be communicated through mass media. But usually in June/ June of each year.

Question: Where do placed students obtain their admission letters?

Answer: The respective institutions where students have been placed are responsible for issuing admission letters and other joining instructions. The admission letter can also be downloaded from the Kuccps Student Portal online.

Question: Does KUCCPS place students to private universities?

Answer: Yes. KUCCPS places Government-sponsored students to most private universities besides public universities. Here is the full list of all eligible institutions.

Question: I did the KCSE examination many years ago but I have never gone to college. Can KUCCPS place me in a degree programme?

Answer: That is not possible. Placement to degree programmes is meant for eligible fresh secondary school graduates (those who did the KCSE examination in the immediate year preceding the selection). However, you can apply for TVET courses.

Question: What is inter-institutional transfer?

Answer: This is an opportunity given to applicants to apply to be transferred from the institution that they were placed in to another subject to meeting the requirements. The transfer processing fee is Ksh 1,000.

Question: How many times can one request for an inter-institution transfer?

Answer: Applicants can transfer only once.

Question: When will the system open for inter-institutional transfer application?

Answer: The system opens for a specific period following the announcement of the release of the placement outcome.
Keep checking the Placement Service website and official digital platforms for updates.

Question: How long does the inter-institution transfer process take?

Answer: After submission of duly completed inter-institution transfer application and endorsement by the two concerned universities/colleges, the final processing takes up to 14 working days.

Question: What are the requirements for inter-institution transfer?

Answer: An applicant must satisfy the minimum requirements for the programme they wish to change to (where applicable). The applicant must also meet the cut-off points for the specific programme in their desired destination institution. They should also give reasons in support of their transfer applications. In addition, the heads of the respective institutions must endorse the transfer application.

Question: Does KUCCPS sponsor students in TVET institutions?

Answer: KUCCPS does not sponsor students but selects students for Government sponsorship to universities and colleges. The Government supports the students admitted through the KUCCPS process by sending capitation (funding) to the respective TVET institutions.

Question: If I get a placement to a private university, will I benefit from Government sponsorship?

Answer: Yes. If KUCCPS places you to a private university, you will be a Government sponsored student similar to those taken to public universities. Therefore, you will enjoy the same tuition subsidies as students placed in public universities.

Question:What is the difference between Government sponsorship and HELB loan?

Answer: When you are on Government sponsorship, the government provides funds (capitation) directly to your university or college to subsidise your fees, while HELB offers loans to students, which the students have to pay back after completion of their studies.

Question: How will the government funding get to me when I join college?

Answer: The funding will be in form of subsidised tuition through funds (capitation) remitted directly to your institution.
In addition, students may apply for loans and bursaries from HELB.

Question: Is it possible to pursue two programs concurrently while being sponsored by the government?

Answer: No. The government can only sponsor you for one programFrequently Asked Questions

Question: Can I apply to private universities through KUCCPS?

Answer: Yes, some private universities participate in KUCCPS placement.

Question: What if I missed the application deadline?

Answer: Unfortunately, KUCCPS is strict about deadlines. You might have to wait for the next cycle or explore other options like direct entry to universities.

Question: How are courses allocated?

Answer: KUCCPS uses a merit-based system, considering your grades and the course requirements.

Question: Can I change my course after being placed?

Answer: It is possible, but not guaranteed. You’d need to apply for an inter-institution transfer.

Ministry of Education Initiates Recruitment of Educators for Special Needs Education Programme

Ministry of Education Initiates Recruitment of Educators for Special Needs Education Programme

The Ministry of Education has revealed the recruitment of current teachers for a full-time Special Needs Education (SNE) Diploma programme at the Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE), set to commence in 2025.

The programme is aimed at present Teachers Service Commission (TSC) staff who want to focus on instructing students with disabilities.

In a statement, the ministry encouraged qualified teachers to submit their applications for the in-service course, with specialisations offered in domains like visual, physical, and hearing impairments; intellectual disabilities; autism; and deafblind education.

Teachers interested in the intake have been instructed to procure the application forms from the ministry’s website or to visit their county and sub-county education offices.

“Each serving TSC teacher wishing to apply for admission to KISE for the two-year full-time SNE Diploma in-service course is hereby notified that application forms are currently available and can be downloaded from the Ministry of Education website or obtained from the nearest CDEs/SCDEs’ offices,” the statement from Education PS Julius Bitok stated in part.

Additionally, after completing the application forms, the county education offices will need to submit them to the ministry’s headquarters in Nairobi.

“Completed application forms must be delivered in person by the applicant to the SCDE by May 9, 2025. All applications shall be forwarded by the SCDE office to Jogoo House B, Room 710, 618/19, by May 16, 2025, at the latest. ”

Applicants must be Kenyan citizens who are under 50 years old, hold a P1 certificate, and have a minimum of five years of experience as TSC teachers.

Bitok underscored that the registration procedure will incur no costs for the teachers.

Each applicant must submit their application in person and provide original and certified photocopies of academic and professional credentials, a national ID or passport, a recent passport photo, and other pertinent testimonials.

The PS noted that visually impaired applicants do not need to handwrite their application forms.

Successfully chosen candidates will receive SMS alerts with information on how to obtain their admission letters.
