Kisiwa TVC online application

Applications and placement to the TVC are done through the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) Portal. To apply for placement through KUCCPS, you need to access the student’s portal on the KUCCPS website and log in using your KCSE index number, year of examination, and password. Once logged in, you can explore available programs and institutions, and then submit your preferred choices. The Minimum requirements are: C- for diplomas, D+ for craft certificates and E for artisan courses. But, different Courses may have more specific requirements.

TECHNICAL AND VOCATIONAL COLLEGE FEES STRUCTURE

The annual tuition fee for TVET courses at many Kenyan Technical and Vocational Colleges (TVCs) is Ksh 67,189. This includes a government capitation of Ksh 30,000 per trainee, leaving a balance of Ksh 26,420 to be paid by the student, which can be paid in installments. Additionally, students may be eligible for a HELB loan of Ksh 40,000. Other potential costs include KUCCPS registration fees, industrial attachment fees, and examination fees.

GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIP AND LOAN FOR TVC STUDENTS.

Following your placement, you are eligible for a Government scholarship, Loan and Bursary to assist with your educational expenses. If you need Government financial support, you MUST make an application for consideration through the official website www.hef.co.ke. In the case Government scholarship, Loan and bursary do not cover the entire cost of your program, the deficit will be met by your parent/guardian.

How to Select Grade 10 Subjects and schools

To select Grade 10 schools and subjects under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) in Kenya, Grade 9 learners should first choose a career pathway (STEM, Social Sciences, or Arts & Sports Science). The TTI Diploma, Certificate and Artisan Courses have different durations, But generally as shown below:

  • Diploma Programs:

    The duration for diploma programs can vary. Some may be completed in two to three years, while others may take longer depending on the specific course and institution. 

  • Certificate Programs:

    Unlike Diploma Courses, Certificate programs typically have a shorter duration, often ranging from one to two years.

The TTI Fees is subsidised by the Government. Students admitted through Kuccps also get fees bursary and loans from the Higher Education Loans Board (Helb) through the Higher Education Funding Model. Below is the general fees requirements for TTI courses:
  • Diploma Courses Fees: Ksh.67,189 per year to Ksh.72,076 per year.
  • Certificate Courses Fees: between Ksh 56,000 to Ksh 67,189 per year

Mathenge Technical Training Institute online application

Applications and placement to the TVC are done through the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) Portal. To apply for placement through KUCCPS, you need to access the student’s portal on the KUCCPS website and log in using your KCSE index number, year of examination, and password. Once logged in, you can explore available programs and institutions, and then submit your preferred choices. You can also apply directly to the institution for admission.
 
The Minimum requirements are: C- for diplomas, D+ for craft certificates and E for artisan courses. But, different Courses may have more specific requirements.

National Schools to Provide All CBC Career Pathways Beginning 2026

In a significant reform of Kenya’s education framework, all national schools will be mandated to adopt all three senior school career pathways commencing January 2026, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba has declared. This signifies a considerable change in the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) implementation as the government seeks to foster inclusivity, diversity, and preparedness for the job market among students.

The three pathways—Social Sciences, Arts and Sports, and Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)—will be compulsory for all national schools. This action forms part of a wider shift intended to utilize the infrastructure, staffing, and academic prowess of national institutions.

While addressing the National Schools Conference in Mombasa, CS Ogamba confirmed that the classification of schools into national, extra-county, county, and sub-county will be eliminated in 2026. Rather, institutions will be classified as either “triple pathway” or “double pathway” depending on their ability to deliver the CBC.

“We have already formulated guidelines for the transition to Grade 10 in January 2026. Dismantling the current school categorization is crucial to ensure fair access to all pathways,” Ogamba remarked. “We are encouraging schools with the appropriate infrastructure and personnel to adopt the triple pathway designation. ”

Ogamba assured stakeholders that the government will enhance infrastructure in selected schools to facilitate the new structure, including amenities for arts and sports that have historically been lacking.

In support of the policy, Teachers Service Commission (TSC) CEO Nancy Macharia called on national schools to spearhead this transformative change. “With your superior facilities, you are ideally situated to provide all three pathways that characterize the CBC,” she stated.

Macharia, who is preparing for her retirement in two months, disclosed that the commission has already retrained over 450,000 teachers to manage CBC content. This includes:

229,292 primary school teachers
75,000 junior secondary school teachers
154,292 secondary school teachers

This training, conducted via a multi-agency and cascade model, was carried out in partnership with the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD), the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC), and other collaborators.

“As I near my final days at the TSC, I am proud to leave a well-trained teaching workforce and established systems to manage the education sector effectively,” Macharia expressed.

She also emphasized the successful negotiation and execution of two major Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs), which she indicated have fostered stability in the education sector.

Simultaneously, the Ministry of Education will organize a National Conversation on Competency-Based Education (CBE) at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi. The gathering is anticipated to unite education specialists, government representatives, parents, and learners to evaluate CBC implementation and shape the subsequent phase of reform.

The triple pathway implementation is set to revolutionize Kenya’s educational landscape, establishing a more skills-oriented and learner-focused system that meets the requirements of the 21st-century workforce.

  • Top 3 learners per gender in each Social Science track per sub-county will be placed for Boarding in schools of choice

  • Placement of Candidates with Achievement Level of averaging 7 and 8 per track to boarding schools of their choice

Admission and replacement process

  • Placement results will show where learners have been placed
  • Admission letters/joining instructions shall be accessed online using the learner’s assessment Number.
  • All schools, both public and private shall admit Grade 10 through KEMIS
  • Leaners will be entered to the KEMIS System only after reporting physically to the school.
  •  Daily online reporting shall be monitored through KEMIS

Replacements

  •  Schools with vacancies will declare through their respective county directors of education
  •  Learners who wish to change schools will make requests through the heads of junior schools at least 2 weeks before the official grade 10 reporting date
  • Priority shall be given to those who had earlier selected the schools they are requesting for  Approvals by MoE shall be based on senior schools’ documented capacity
  • Upon a request’s approval, the joining instructions shall be accessed online; at no time shall a school issue printed letters for replacement cases
  • Replacement will be done once and shall be irreversible

How to Select Grade 10 Subjects and schools

To select Grade 10 schools and subjects under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) in Kenya, Grade 9 learners should first choose a career pathway (STEM, Social Sciences, or Arts & Sports Science). Then, they’ll select three subject combinations within that pathway and finally, choose four schools for each combination, totaling 12 schools. To select preferred Grade 10 Schools and Subject Combinations, use the Ministry of Education portal selection.education.go.ke.

1. How you can Choose a Career Pathway:

  • Identify your interests and potential career aspirations.
  • Select one of the three pathways: STEM, Social Sciences, or Arts & Sports Science.
  • Confirm your choice to proceed with the pathway.

2. Select Subject Combinations:

  • The portal will provide you with a list of subject combinations available within your chosen pathway.
  • Choose three subject combinations that align with your interests and strengths.

3. Select Preferred Senior Schools:

SELECTION OF PATHWAYS AND SENIOR SCHOOLS

• Determination of pathways per senior school
• Determination of vacancies for boarding and day schooling in senior schools
• Selection of pathways, subjects’ combination and schools by grade 9 learners Selection based on pathway

The learner will select 12 schools for their chosen pathway as follows.
– Four 4 schools in first choice track and subject combination
– Four (4) schools in second choice subject combination
– Four (4) schools in third choice subject combination (Total 12 schools) Selection based on accommodation

Out of the 12 schools selected based on pathway;

  • 9 will be boarding schools; 3 from the learners’ home county, 6 from outside their home county/county of residence.
  • Three (3) day schools in their home sub county/sub county of residence. (Total 12 schools)
    Pre selection – A school that does not allow open placement can apply to be pre-select if it meets the criteria defined by the Ministry of Education.

How Placement of learners to Senior Schools (SS) at Grade 10 will be done

It will be based on:

  • Top 6 learners per gender in each STEM track per sub-county will be placed for Boarding in  schools of choice
  • Top 3 learners per gender in each Social Science track per sub-county will be placed for Boarding in schools of choice
  • Top 2 learners per gender in each Arts and Sports Science track per sub-county be placed to Boarding schools of their choice

Two bank tellers investigated over murder of Mumias Teacher

As the DCI intensifies its investigation into the murder of a Mumias instructor, two bank tellers are on site.

Detectives have focused their investigation on two bank cashiers who withdrew Sh285,000 from a bank in Mumias town before a teacher was killed by unidentified attackers.

The Standard has determined that the two bank employees who served the murdered Roseylda Akinyi are people of interest, even while they are following up on two additional suspects who were caught on the bank’s CCTV cameras.

According to authorities, the victim was stabbed with a knife rather than killed by gunfire, as previously stated.

Shortly after taking cash from the bank last week, Akinyi was ambushed by a gang of criminals in a saloon vehicle.

She was assaulted just a kilometer from the bank.

The detectives are looking for two guys who were seen acting suspiciously around a bank teller and a security, Western Regional Criminal Investigation Officer Njeru Nthiga said.

“We’re doing alright thus far.” Nthiga stated, “We have two suspects who were in the bank and they were seen engaging a bank teller at the loan section and a bank security guard.”

According to initial investigations, one of the suspects requested a loan that did not exist, while the other hired a guard, claiming that some money had been transferred to the incorrect number, and that he needed assistance in a timing game while waiting for the deceased to withdraw funds.

The detectives have thus far secured CCTV footage from the bank that clearly shows the suspects following the deceased while pretending to be on the phone when in line, according to Nthiga.

Nthiga stated, “The suspects are seen suspiciously looking at the deceased, and we suspect their conduct and if they are not the killers or the scouts for killers, they should show or direct us to the killers.”

He claimed that the police have every justification to think that the two tellers, a bank security officer, and the boda boda driver who was transporting the dead all have important information that will help solve the murder.

“Because bank tellers can set you up, or a bank guard or maybe the suspects might see the kind of withdrawal and decide to trail you, we are exploring a lot of options we are exploring,” he said.

The detective said that even though the boda boda operator is said to be a relative of the deceased, he will still be interrogated to see if he in any way acted as an informant to any of the suspects.

“We have the deceased’s mobile phone in our custody for more examination. Nthiga stated, “It’s a challenging procedure, but we must carry it out.”

SUBJECT: IMPLEMENTATION OF THE PIX DIGITAL SKILLS ASSESSMENT PROJECT AND STAKEHOLDER TRAINING

The Ministry of Education in collaboration with the World Bank is undertaking the PIX Digital Skills Assessment in selected learning institutions in Kenya.

The initiative aims to assess the digital skills proficiency of learners and teaching staff within the participating institutions. The information gathered will provide valuable insights to inform the Ministry strategies for enhancing digital literacy and integrating technology effectively in education.

The 10 days pilot assessment will be conducted in 159 institutions selected by the Ministry comprising 51 primary schools, 51 junior schools, 43 senior schools, and 14 teacher training colleges within the month of May, 2025 after due sensitizations. Instructively, the assessment exercise will be carried out online, and therefore the participating institutions are required to have access to computers and internet connectivity for seamless engagements.

Accordingly, there shall be an online sensitization of the activity to all the CDES an SCDES on Monday 12th May, 2025 from 8am – 9am. The list of schools for the pilot exercise shall be emailed to you within the week.

SELECTION OF PATHWAYS AND SENIOR SCHOOLS

• Determination of pathways per senior school
• Determination of vacancies for boarding and day schooling in senior schools
• Selection of pathways, subjects’ combination and schools by grade 9 learners Selection based on pathway

The learner will select 12 schools for their chosen pathway as follows.
– Four 4 schools in first choice track and subject combination
– Four (4) schools in second choice subject combination
– Four (4) schools in third choice subject combination (Total 12 schools) Selection based on accommodation

Out of the 12 schools selected based on pathway;

  • 9 will be boarding schools; 3 from the learners’ home county, 6 from outside their home county/county of residence.
  • Three (3) day schools in their home sub county/sub county of residence. (Total 12 schools)
    Pre selection – A school that does not allow open placement can apply to be pre-select if it meets the criteria defined by the Ministry of Education.

How Placement of learners to Senior Schools (SS) at Grade 10 will be done

It will be based on:

  • Top 6 learners per gender in each STEM track per sub-county will be placed for Boarding in  schools of choice
  • Top 3 learners per gender in each Social Science track per sub-county will be placed for Boarding in schools of choice
  • Top 2 learners per gender in each Arts and Sports Science track per sub-county be placed to Boarding schools of their choice
  • Placement of Candidates with Achievement Level of averaging 7 and 8 per track to boarding schools of their choice

Admission and replacement process

  • Placement results will show where learners have been placed
  • Admission letters/joining instructions shall be accessed online using the learner’s assessment Number.
  • All schools, both public and private shall admit Grade 10 through KEMIS
  • Leaners will be entered to the KEMIS System only after reporting physically to the school.
  •  Daily online reporting shall be monitored through KEMIS

Replacements

  •  Schools with vacancies will declare through their respective county directors of education
  •  Learners who wish to change schools will make requests through the heads of junior schools at least 2 weeks before the official grade 10 reporting date
  • Priority shall be given to those who had earlier selected the schools they are requesting for  Approvals by MoE shall be based on senior schools’ documented capacity
  • Upon a request’s approval, the joining instructions shall be accessed online; at no time shall a school issue printed letters for replacement cases
  • Replacement will be done once and shall be irreversible

DISBURSEMENT OF CAPITATION FOR TERM 2, 2025

The Government has today released Ksh. 22,028,911,191.40 as capitation for Term 2 for learners in all public basic education institutions.

The amount has been apportioned as follows across the various levels of basic education:

(a). Free Primary Education Sh. 1,370,196,684.55

(b). Free Day Junior School Education
8,900,424,491.35

(c). Free Day Junior School (Special Needs
118,417,921.35 Education)

(d). Free Day Secondary Education
11,639,872,094.40

Total: 22,028,911,191.40

The release of capitation funds will facilitate the seamless conduct of school activities in the new term.

The Government affirms its commitment to fulfil its duty to learners and educational institutions, in line with Article 53(1)(b) of the Constitution that
entitles every child to free and compulsory basic education.

School heads and principals are directed to ensure prudent use of these public
resources entrusted to their care for the benefit of learners, and to desist from
imposing any unauthorized levies.

As a Ministry, we will deal firmly with any verified cases of misappropriation of resources and the Imposition of unauthorized levies.
