How to Select Grade 10 Subjects and schools

To select Grade 10 schools and subjects under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) in Kenya, Grade 9 learners should first choose a career pathway (STEM, Social Sciences, or Arts & Sports Science). Then, they’ll select three subject combinations within that pathway and finally, choose four schools for each combination, totaling 12 schools. To select preferred Grade 10 Schools and Subject Combinations, use the Ministry of Education portal selection.education.go.ke.

1. How you can Choose a Career Pathway:

  • Identify your interests and potential career aspirations.
  • Select one of the three pathways: STEM, Social Sciences, or Arts & Sports Science.
  • Confirm your choice to proceed with the pathway.

2. Select Subject Combinations:

  • The portal will provide you with a list of subject combinations available within your chosen pathway.
  • Choose three subject combinations that align with your interests and strengths.

Matili Technical Training Institute (TTI) is located in Kimilili town, Bungoma County, Kenya. It’s known for being a leading TVET institute in Western Kenya, particularly focusing on Mechanical Engineering and striving to be a center of excellence. The institute was established in 1959 as a youth center and has evolved through various stages to become a TTI in 2009. Matili TTI Courses offered

The TTI offers the following Courses that are approved by the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS):

Matili Technical Training Institute Courses Duration.

The TTI Diploma, Certificate and Artisan Courses have different durations, But generally as shown below:

  • Diploma Programs:

    The duration for diploma programs can vary. Some may be completed in two to three years, while others may take longer depending on the specific course and institution. 

  • Certificate Programs:

    Unlike Diploma Courses, Certificate programs typically have a shorter duration, often ranging from one to two years. 

  • Artisan Programs:
    Artisan programs also have varying durations, but are generally shorter than certificate programs, with some being completed in less than a year. 

Matili TVC fee structure

The TTI Fees is subsidised by the Government. Students admitted through Kuccps also get fees bursary and loans from the Higher Education Loans Board (Helb) through the Higher Education Funding Model. Below is the general fees requirements for TTI courses:
  • Diploma Courses Fees: Ksh.67,189 per year to Ksh.72,076 per year.
  • Certificate Courses Fees: between Ksh 56,000 to Ksh 67,189 per year
  • Artisan Courses Fees: between Ksh 56,000 to Ksh 67,189 per year

Matili Technical Training Institute online application

Applications and placement to the TVC are done through the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) Portal. To apply for placement through KUCCPS, you need to access the student’s portal on the KUCCPS website and log in using your KCSE index number, year of examination, and password. Once logged in, you can explore available programs and institutions, and then submit your preferred choices. Start your application by clicking on this Kuccps Student Portal Link.
You can also apply directly to the institution for admission.
 
The Minimum requirements are: C- for diplomas, D+ for craft certificates and E for artisan courses. But, different Courses may have more specific requirements.

Matili Technical and Vocational College Admission Letter.

Dear Colleagues,

As we commence Term Two activities, you are reminded to strictly adhere to the resolutions and guidelines agreed upon during our recent conference on the management of co-curricular and related educational activities at all levels.

Please ensure the following are observed without exception:

Transportation of Learners

All transportation of learners must strictly occur between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.. No exceptions will be tolerated, and any breach of this directive will be treated as a violation of Ministry policy.

Accompanying Teachers

Only duly registered teachers are permitted to accompany, train, conduct, and manage learners during official activities. Unregistered individuals must not be involved in any capacity.

Gender-Sensitive Accompaniment

Male learners must be accompanied by at least one male teacher, and female learners must be accompanied by at least one female teacher. This measure is to ensure appropriate support and supervision at all times.

Your cooperation in implementing these directives is crucial to the success and integrity of our programs. Kindly ensure immediate dissemination and compliance across all schools and activity centers under your jurisdiction.

How to Select Grade 10 Subjects and schools

To select Grade 10 schools and subjects under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) in Kenya, Grade 9 learners should first choose a career pathway (STEM, Social Sciences, or Arts & Sports Science). Then, they’ll select three subject combinations within that pathway and finally, choose four schools for each combination, totaling 12 schools. To select preferred Grade 10 Schools and Subject Combinations, use the Ministry of Education portal selection.education.go.ke.

1. How you can Choose a Career Pathway:

  • Identify your interests and potential career aspirations.
  • Select one of the three pathways: STEM, Social Sciences, or Arts & Sports Science.
  • Confirm your choice to proceed with the pathway.

2. Select Subject Combinations:

  • The portal will provide you with a list of subject combinations available within your chosen pathway.
  • Choose three subject combinations that align with your interests and strengths.

3. Select Preferred Senior Schools:

  • For each subject combination, select four schools from the available clusters.
  • This ensures a diverse range of options and equal representation from different categories of schools.
  • A total of 12 schools will be selected: 4 for the first subject combination, 4 for the second, and 4 for the third.

SELECTION OF PATHWAYS AND SENIOR SCHOOLS

• Determination of pathways per senior school
• Determination of vacancies for boarding and day schooling in senior schools
• Selection of pathways, subjects’ combination and schools by grade 9 learners Selection based on pathway

The learner will select 12 schools for their chosen pathway as follows.
– Four 4 schools in first choice track and subject combination
– Four (4) schools in second choice subject combination
– Four (4) schools in third choice subject combination (Total 12 schools) Selection based on accommodation

Out of the 12 schools selected based on pathway;

  • 9 will be boarding schools; 3 from the learners’ home county, 6 from outside their home county/county of residence.
  • Three (3) day schools in their home sub county/sub county of residence. (Total 12 schools)
    Pre selection – A school that does not allow open placement can apply to be pre-select if it meets the criteria defined by the Ministry of Education.

How Placement of learners to Senior Schools (SS) at Grade 10 will be done

It will be based on:

  • Top 6 learners per gender in each STEM track per sub-county will be placed for Boarding in  schools of choice
  • Top 3 learners per gender in each Social Science track per sub-county will be placed for Boarding in schools of choice
  • Top 2 learners per gender in each Arts and Sports Science track per sub-county be placed to Boarding schools of their choice
  • Placement of Candidates with Achievement Level of averaging 7 and 8 per track to boarding schools of their choice

Admission and replacement process

  • Placement results will show where learners have been placed
  • Admission letters/joining instructions shall be accessed online using the learner’s assessment Number.
  • All schools, both public and private shall admit Grade 10 through KEMIS
  • Leaners will be entered to the KEMIS System only after reporting physically to the school.
  •  Daily online reporting shall be monitored through KEMIS

Replacements

  •  Schools with vacancies will declare through their respective county directors of education
  •  Learners who wish to change schools will make requests through the heads of junior schools at least 2 weeks before the official grade 10 reporting date
  • Priority shall be given to those who had earlier selected the schools they are requesting for  Approvals by MoE shall be based on senior schools’ documented capacity
  • Upon a request’s approval, the joining instructions shall be accessed online; at no time shall a school issue printed letters for replacement cases
  • Replacement will be done once and shall be irreversible

“Fair and Square”: TSC Defends Its Promotion of 25,000 Teachers Following Parliamentary Opposition

Following Parliament’s decision to reject the exercise due to fairness and transparency issues, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has steadfastly defended its recent promotion of 25,000 instructors. The Commission maintains that, in spite of this setback, the procedure followed all legal and procedural guidelines and was carried out in a fair and merit-based way.

The TSC stated that the promotions were made through a fair and transparent procedure that considered precise factors such as performance assessments, years of experience, and credentials. TSC asserted in a statement released earlier this week that the procedure complied with the Teachers Service Commission Act as well as any applicable Public Service standards.

“The Commission would like to reassure the public and all stakeholders that the recent promotions were carried out with the highest integrity, professionalism, and in full accordance with the current policies and frameworks,” said TSC CEO Dr. Nancy Macharia. “We are committed to ensuring that deserving teachers are recognized and given opportunities for career advancement.”

The procedure was, however, opposed by Members of Parliament, notably those on the Education and Public Accounts Committees. They mentioned worries about supposed favoritism, a lack of regional balance, and insufficient stakeholder input. In order to guarantee inclusivity and transparency, the lawmakers demanded a thorough audit of the promotional standards and asked for a review.

Parliament’s rejection has sparked a national debate in which teachers’ unions and organizations in civil society are participating. The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) has called for a conversation between TSC and Parliament to break the deadlock, warning that ongoing disagreements might demoralize teachers and disrupt education in public schools.

“This is a matter that directly affects the morale of thousands of teachers across the country,” said KNUT Secretary-General Collins Oyuu. “We urge both TSC and Parliament to come to the table and find a resolution in the best interest of the education sector.”

The TSC, on the other hand, has shown a willingness to collaborate with lawmakers and other parties in order to address the issues raised and enhance procedures for the future. Nevertheless, it still holds that the promotions were essential in addressing leadership shortages in schools as well as in improving the caliber of education in Kenya.

As the Commission and Parliament continue their discussions, the future of the 25,000 promoted teachers is still up in the air. Stakeholders are now paying attention to how the stalemate will be broken and what consequences it will have on the nation’s current educational changes.

To select Grade 10 schools and subjects under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) in Kenya, Grade 9 learners should first choose a career pathway (STEM, Social Sciences, or Arts & Sports Science). Then, they’ll select three subject combinations within that pathway and finally, choose four schools for each combination, totaling 12 schools. To select preferred Grade 10 Schools and Subject Combinations, use the Ministry of Education portal selection.education.go.ke.

1. How you can Choose a Career Pathway:

  • Identify your interests and potential career aspirations.
  • Select one of the three pathways: STEM, Social Sciences, or Arts & Sports Science.
  • Confirm your choice to proceed with the pathway.

2. Select Subject Combinations:

  • The portal will provide you with a list of subject combinations available within your chosen pathway.
  • Choose three subject combinations that align with your interests and strengths.

3. Select Preferred Senior Schools:

  • For each subject combination, select four schools from the available clusters.
  • This ensures a diverse range of options and equal representation from different categories of schools.
  • A total of 12 schools will be selected: 4 for the first subject combination, 4 for the second, and 4 for the third.

C3 Teacher TSC pay scale and Allwances

Teachers fall into various groups based on their experience and qualifications, with each group receiving salaries and benefits that match their level. The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has introduced new salary packages for teachers who have been promoted to different job grades, resulting in adjustments to the C3 teacher salary system.

For quite some time, there has been significant concern about the C3 teacher salary in TSC, but this issue has recently been tackled. Even though the adjustments are important, the specifics of the revised salary and allowances for C3 teachers are not widely known to the public. This article delves into the details of the revised salary and allowances. Therefore, what is the amount of a C3 teacher salary? Who is eligible for a C3 teacher salary?

The C3 teacher salary is for educators in Job Group L according to the Teachers Service Commission’s Career Progression Guidelines. This category includes Senior Teacher I in primary schools, Senior Master III in secondary schools, and Senior Lecturer III in tertiary institutions.

Teachers at this institution are required to have a bachelor’s degree in Education or a diploma in education along with relevant experience. They must have worked in grade C2 for a minimum of 3 years and have shown proficiency in teaching and administrative duties. Additionally, they may need to participate in TSC professional development programs. Special Needs Education (SNE) teachers in both primary and secondary schools are also eligible for the corresponding salary grade.

If you are new to TSC as a teacher, you will not start at C3 right away. Instead, primary teachers with a diploma will begin at C1, while secondary teachers with a bachelor’s degree will start at C2.

After acquiring experience, participating in TSC development programs, and seeking promotions, you are eligible to advance to C3. Secondary school teachers automatically move to C3 after completing 3 years of service. Subsequently, you must undergo interviews to advance in job group.

Many individuals know about different teacher salary plans, but not everyone is informed about the recent changes made to the C3 teacher salary package. Some job categories were removed, and others were merged in the updated TSC grading system.

In this revised system, the titles for teachers in the C3 job group, categorized under job group 8, are as follows: Secondary Teacher I, Lecturer I, SNE Teacher I for primary level, SNE Teacher II for secondary level, and Senior Teacher I.

What is the starting pay for a C3 educator? How much does a secondary school teacher and others in the same group earn as their base salary?

Teachers receive a starting salary between Ksh 43,154 and Ksh 53,943. The actual amount they earn falls within this range and is influenced by various factors such as their job category, years of experience, and duties they are assigned.

The TTI offers the following Courses that are approved by the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS):

Tseikuru Technical Training Institute Courses Duration.

The TTI Diploma, Certificate and Artisan Courses have different durations, But generally as shown below:

  • Diploma Programs:

    The duration for diploma programs can vary. Some may be completed in two to three years, while others may take longer depending on the specific course and institution. 

  • Certificate Programs:

    Unlike Diploma Courses, Certificate programs typically have a shorter duration, often ranging from one to two years. 

  • Artisan Programs:
    Artisan programs also have varying durations, but are generally shorter than certificate programs, with some being completed in less than a year. 

Tseikuru TVC fee structure

The TTI Fees is subsidised by the Government. Students admitted through Kuccps also get fees bursary and loans from the Higher Education Loans Board (Helb) through the Higher Education Funding Model. Below is the general fees requirements for TTI courses:
  • Diploma Courses Fees: Ksh.67,189 per year to Ksh.72,076 per year.
  • Certificate Courses Fees: between Ksh 56,000 to Ksh 67,189 per year
  • Artisan Courses Fees: between Ksh 56,000 to Ksh 67,189 per year

Tseikuru Technical Training Institute online application

Applications and placement to the TVC are done through the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) Portal. To apply for placement through KUCCPS, you need to access the student’s portal on the KUCCPS website and log in using your KCSE index number, year of examination, and password. Once logged in, you can explore available programs and institutions, and then submit your preferred choices. You can also apply directly to the institution for admission.
 
The Minimum requirements are: C- for diplomas, D+ for craft certificates and E for artisan courses. But, different Courses may have more specific requirements.
