DJ Joe Mfalme exonerated in murder case, Turns state witness
In a surprising turn of events, Kenyan entertainer Joseph Mwenda, popularly known as DJ Joe Mfalme, has been exonerated of murder charges and released from remand after a 14-day incarceration.
The popular DJ, along with five others, including three police officers, will now serve as state witnesses in the case involving the death of senior detective Felix Kelian.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) had initially detained Mfalme and his co-accused to allow for the completion of investigations into Kelian’s murder.
However, in a ruling on Monday, April 8, 2024, Kibera Magistrate Margaret Murage was informed by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) that Mfalme and the others would be designated as state witnesses.
The case revolves around a minor accident on Kikuyu Road, where Kelian’s vehicle allegedly collided with a car carrying Ochieng, Eric Kariuki Gathua, Simon Wambugu Wanjiru, and DJ Joe Mfalme. An altercation ensued, resulting in Kelian being assaulted by the group. The detective later complained of abdominal pain and was observed urinating blood at the Kikuyu police station.
Despite being admitted to Nairobi West Hospital, Kelian passed away on March 21 during treatment.
Following his release, DJ Joe Mfalme expressed relief and gratitude for being exonerated of the murder charges. In a statement on Instagram, his management thanked fans and followers for their support during this challenging time.
The defense had objected to the prolonged detention of the suspects, arguing that no exceptional circumstances justified their continued remand. They also contested claims of Ochieng being a flight risk, asserting that no evidence was provided to support this allegation.
As the case progresses, the focus now shifts to Allan Ochieng, who faces a murder charge in connection with the death of the senior detective.
The exoneration of DJ Joe Mfalme and his co-accused now turned state witnesses, marks a significant development in this high-profile case that has captured the attention of the Kenyan public.
