Fewer than fifty percent of eligible students have submitted applications for the 2025 University Placement.
Three weeks have elapsed since the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) initiated the application portal for prospective students seeking admission to institutions of higher education. However, the response has been sluggish; of the estimated 246,000 eligible students, only 104,000 have completed their applications to date. With merely one week remaining until the portal’s closure, these figures raise concerns among officials from the Ministry of Education.
In an effort to address this apparent lack of engagement, Ministry of Education representatives are actively visiting various regions of the country to inform students and their parents about the importance of registering within the designated timeframe.
Professor John Oluoch, the Director for Placement and Career Development at KUCCPS, stated, “We have dispatched our officers from Nairobi to all 47 counties to assist with the registration process. Although we have not yet reached half of the anticipated number, we remain optimistic about the remaining time available. We believe that all will be well.”
He further emphasized, “This year, we have improved our infrastructure, and everything is functioning adequately. We strongly encourage students to come forward and register.”
In Kisii County, officials engaged with stakeholders, providing students with answers to various challenges they encountered during the registration process. Additionally, students enrolled in medical programs at the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) took this opportunity to appeal to the government for access to higher education funding to support their studies.
