Husband of teacher murdered after taking money from bank had earlier been abducted and robbed of cash.
Residents of Ekero Market in Busia are in disbelief after a female teacher from Khaunga Secondary School was shot and killed by armed criminals on Tuesday.
The victim, Roselida Akinyi Wanga, was assaulted in broad daylight shortly after withdrawing Ksh. 200,000 from a bank in Mumias town.
Eyewitnesses stated that the attackers, who had been following her in a small vehicle, ambushed her while she was on her way home.
According to area Chief Peter Nabiswa, this is not the first time the family has faced such an attack. Last year, Akinyi’s husband, who is also a teacher, was kidnapped, robbed of cash, and left in a thicket in Siaya after withdrawing money from the same bank.
The couple additionally ran mobile banking and agency services at Khaunga Market, which might have made them targets for criminal activities.
Authorities confirmed that investigations are ongoing; however, there have been no arrests made thus far.
Community members have denounced the killing, calling for immediate action from law enforcement.
The vicious murder has left locals in fear, with many urging officials to improve security measures.
This incident underscores the increasing worries about bank-related robberies in various areas of the country, with demands for better security for business operators and residents.
