KNEC dispatches 2023 KCSE and KCPE Certificates to Schools

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has declared the sending out of certificates for the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidates.

In a statement shared on X, KNEC verified that the certificates have been delivered through Sub-County Directors of Education nationwide.

“Candidates are urged to connect with the schools where they took the examinations to retrieve the certificates,” the council remarked.

KNEC additionally cautioned that it is unlawful for any school to retain a candidate’s certificate, encouraging students encountering such issues to report to the Sub-County Directors of Education for help.

This comes after a directive issued by Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba on March 24, 2025, warning school principals against withholding certificates for any justification, including unpaid school fees or lost property.

“Holding a student’s certificate once they have finished school, whether because of fee balances, lost books, or damaged property, is illegal,” Ogamba stated.

He provided a 14-day deadline for all certificates being withheld to be released, stressing that schools should pursue alternative means to recover any outstanding payments.
