Revised School Calendar: Academic Term Dates for 2025

The Ministry of Education has published the updated academic calendar for 2025, which includes term dates, mid-term breaks, and examination schedules for various assessments, including the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA), Kenya Intermediate Level Education Assessment (KILEA), Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA), Kenya Pre-Vocational Level Education Assessment (KPLEA), and the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).

According to the calendar from the Principal Secretary of Basic Education, schools will reopen for Term 1 on January 6, 2025, and will close on April 4, 2025, after 13 weeks of instruction. A five-day mid-term break is scheduled from February 26 to March 2, 2025.

Key dates for the 2025 Academic Calendar are as follows:

– Term 1: Begins on January 6, 2025, and lasts for 13 weeks, concluding on April 4, 2025. The mid-term break will occur from February 26 to March 2, 2025.

– April Holiday: Following Term 1, there will be a three-week break from April 7 to April 25, 2025.

– Term 2: Starts on April 28, 2025, and runs for 14 weeks, ending on August 1, 2025. A five-day mid-term break is scheduled from June 25 to June 29, 2025.

– August Holiday: Schools will be closed for three weeks from August 4 to August 22, 2025.

– Term 3: Commences on August 25, 2025, and lasts for nine weeks, concluding on October 24, 2025.

– December Holiday: The academic year will officially end on October 27, 2025, for most students, followed by a 10-week holiday until January 2, 2026.

National Examination Schedule for 2025

The 2025 calendar also outlines important dates for national assessments. The Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) will take place from October 27 to October 30, 2025, while the Kenya Intermediate Level Education Assessment (KILEA) will occur from October 27 to October 31, 2025.

The Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) and Kenya Pre-Vocational Level Education Assessment (KPLEA) will run from October 27 to November 6, 2025. Meanwhile, the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) will be conducted from November 3 to November 21, 2025.
