TSC trains more than 291,000 teachers to ensure the effective execution of CBC.

Over 291,134 teachers have been provided with additional training by the Teachers Service Commission to effectively incorporate the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).

At the National Conversation on Competency-Based Education, TSC director Peter Kega revealed that a total of 291,134 teachers have been trained so far. The majority of these teachers, specifically 229,292, are primary school teachers. Additionally, there are 60,642 teachers from junior secondary schools and 1,200 from teacher training institutions. This training initiative is expected to have reached its target by April 25, 2024.

Kega mentioned that the training has given teachers the tools they need to effectively implement CBE, with teachers actively participating in curriculum discussions.

After completing the trainings, teachers receive ongoing professional support, which has been provided to 7,200 teachers nationwide by the government.

The goal of the Digital Literacy Programme (DLP) implemented by the government is to incorporate technology in education, particularly in schools, and has shown considerable progress in rolling out the program nationwide.

The committee is providing training to educators on the Digital Literacy Program, with a focus on capacity building. Up to this point, one thousand teachers have received training through remote methods. With this approach, teachers do not need to physically be in the classroom as learners are supervised using various techniques.

Teachers in well-equipped schools are using live streaming technology to share their classes with other institutions, allowing learners from 180 satellite schools to receive live lessons from 30 primary schools that focus on quality teaching.

The Teaching Service Commission (TSC) has hired 76,765 teachers for junior schools, with 56,765 on permanent and pensionable terms. Additionally, there are 20,000 interns currently serving. Some primary school teachers are qualified to teach in junior secondary schools and have been assigned to work there.
