Main Story

The Deputy Director of the Ministry of Education, Fred Odhiambo, recently outlined the criteria for placing learners in Grade 10, emphasizing a structured approach to ensure fair access to education. Speaking on April 23, Odhiambo pointed out that the selection process for senior schools will consider several factors, including educational pathways, accommodation types—day and hybrid schools—gender, and special needs requirements.

This initiative is particularly important as it relates to the current Grade 9 cohort, who will move to Grade 10 in 2026, marking the start of the senior school phase under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).

The ministry’s emphasis on diverse pathways aims to address the unique needs of each learner, making certain that all students have the chance to succeed in their educational experiences.

By applying these criteria, the Ministry of Education aims to promote an inclusive environment that supports the varied aspirations and abilities of students throughout the country.
