KNEC Sets July and August Deadlines for 2025 CBC Assessments
The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has announced important deadlines for the 2025 school-based projects and performance tasks for students in Grades 3, 7, and 8, as well as stage-based learners and candidates for the Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA).
In a notice released on Monday, KNEC stated that schools are required to conduct the assessments and upload the results to the Competency-Based Assessment (CBA) portal by July 31 for Grades 3, 7, and 8, as well as stage-based learners, and by August 30 for KJSEA candidates.
“The projects and performance tasks for Grades 3, 7, and 8, as well as stage-based pathways and KJSEA, have been made available on the CBA portal (https://cba.knec.ac.ke) for schools to access,” the council announced.
Schools have been instructed to carry out the assessments and ensure that all students’ scores are uploaded within the specified timeframes. KNEC emphasized that teachers should evaluate the students according to the official guidelines provided by the council.
“Schools are expected to conduct the projects and performance tasks and upload the scores for all students to the portal by the following deadlines: July 31, 2025, for Grades 3, 7, and 8, and stage-based pathways, and August 30, 2025, for KJSEA projects,” KNEC stated.
The council also warned that failing to meet these deadlines, particularly for KJSEA scores, would incur financial penalties.
“A fine of Sh500 per candidate will be imposed for any KJSEA project uploads submitted after the deadline,” the notice indicated.
Headteachers are also required to keep records and maintain evidence from the project assessments for accountability and future reference.
KNEC advised that the materials needed for the assessments should be sourced from the school’s immediate environment or improvised as much as possible.
KJSEA is the national examination introduced as part of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) to evaluate students at the end of Grade 9, marking their transition from junior school to senior school.
Over 1.2 million Grade 9 students are expected to take the KJSEA in November as they prepare to move on to senior school next year.
