The structure of the National School competition was modified as the Brookside KSSSA National Secondary School Term One school games concluded in Mombasa on Saturday, April 12, 2025.

Schools from the Western region of Kenya affirmed their dominance with an almost flawless performance showcasing the area’s status as a hub for sports development and talent.

Butere Girls, whose play ‘Echoes Of War’ in the national college and drama festivals has garnered significant attention, affirmed their “Queens of the Courts” title in Basketball with a third consecutive nationals final.

The Kakamega County-based institution attained a 76-53 win against the coastal-based Kaya Tiwi.

In rugby, Vihiga High clinched the Rugby 15s boys’ championship after overcoming Kisii School 14-6 in a thrilling final that saw both teams from the western region of Kenya compete for the new national rugby 15s title.

Kisii School, representing Nyanza, had dethroned the defending champions and East Africa champions, All Saints of Embu, in the semifinals to arrange a match against Vihiga.
Laiser Hill ended the Western school stronghold by winning the boys’ national basketball title after narrowly defeating defending champions Dr Aggrey.

The win fulfilled the team’s vow to make amends for a loss encountered in 2024 against their coastal rivals.

Other triumphant teams included Musingu Boys and Kimilili’s St Luke’s Boys who upheld their Hockey and Handball crowns with victories over St Anthony’s and St Albert Kamito Boys respectively.
Kimilili thwarted Kamito’s unexpected resurgence in the national games with a final score of 35-18.

The West Pokot county team, Kamito, had previously won against Nyanza representatives Manyatta in the semifinals.

Meanwhile, Moi Girls Kamusinga’s 24-14 win against St Joseph Girls from Kitale signified a total domination for the Western team in handball competitions.

Tigoi Girls from the Western region also retained their championship in the girls’ category. Salome Anyango’s crucial shot in the 50th minute sealed a memorable 3-2 victory over St Joseph Girls Kitale.
The team’s attention now redirects to enhancing preparations for the Federation of East Africa School (FEASSSA) Games.

The East Africa games are set to return to Kenya in 2025 commencing in August this year.
